Free appointment

Your first appointment is free:

If this is the first time that you have seen a counsellor it is likely that you will feel anxious or nervous and this is perfectly normal - as part of my training I attended therapy for over a year and I understand how it feels at the start. With this in mind, it may be helpful if I explain what you can expect at our first meeting:

The first meeting provides an opportunity for us to discuss the issues that are troubling you and to see if and how they can be resolved in therapy and approximately how long this is likely to take. I will take some time to explain how I work with integrative counselling and give you ‘handouts’ which explain how the counselling process works in detail. (Each week I will be giving you further free handout material.)

The first meeting gives you an opportunity to ask any questions and raise any concerns you may have about counselling; most importantly, it allows time for you to see if you feel sufficiently comfortable to work with me on a committed basis. It is very important that you feel happy about this. If you decide to continue we will both work to a simple contract that sets out basic guidelines for best practice. I observe a code of strict confidentiality in accordance with the ethical framework of BACP.
